“Red Cloud” (Lakota Chief)

Red Cloud (Lakota: Maȟpíya Lúta) (born 1822 – December 10, 1909) was one of the most important leaders of the Oglala Lakota from 1868 to 1909. He was one of the most capable Native American opponents that the United States Army faced in its mission to occupy the western territories, defeating the United States during Red Cloud’s War, which was a fight over control of the Powder River Country in northeastern Wyoming and southern Montana. The largest action of the war was the Fetterman Fight, with 81 U.S soldiers killed, and was the worst military defeat suffered by the United States Army on the Great Plains until the Battle of the Little Bighorn ten years later.
After signing the Treaty of Fort Laramie (1868), Red Cloud led his people in the important transition to reservation life.
This original acrylic painting is on an 18 X 24 gallery-wrapped canvas, and is a Raw Umber Mono-color.

Ten Horse Team on the Overland Trail
The Overland Trail (also known as the “Overland Stage Line”) was a stagecoach and wagon trail in the American West during the 19th century. While portions of the route had been used by explorers and trappers since the 1820s, the Overland Trail was most heavily used in the 1860s as an alternative route to the Oregon, California, and Utan trails through central Wyoming. The Overland Trail was famously used by the Overland Stage Company owned by Ben Holladay to run mail and passengers to Salt Lake City, Utah, via stagecoaches in the early 1860s. The stage line operated until 1869 when the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad eliminated the need for mail service via stagecoach.

Many years ago, when I was young, (That was just shortly before they invented Dirt.) I lived in the back country, and spent a good deal of my time in the woods with a camera. On one of my forays, I ran across a litter of raccoons waiting for mama to return home to feed them. Apparently she had been delayed for quite some time, and the young coons were not happy about it. As a matter of fact that is how I found them in the first place because they were raising quite a commotion, and I heard them before I saw them.Description:This is an acrylic painting on a 16X20 gallery wrapped canvas. The great part is that the painting is an original, and this means it is a “One-of-a-Kind”. No one else can get one.

“Buttin’ Heads” The Ritual

Bison breed in the summer. Male bison compete for mating rights, butting heads with other bulls. In these competitions, male bison may also lower their heads, paw at the ground, and emit a bellow which can be heard up to three miles away. This sculpture is called “Buttin’ Heads”, and was completed in late September of 2024.
The overall size is 23 inches long, 12 inches wide, and 12 inches high. It was designed to set on a shelf in your living room or studio, or better yet, on the mantle of your fireplace. It was sculpted using a two-part epoxy, and is coated with three colors of metallic wax. The sculpture is an original work by Robert M Walker, and is one of a kind. Your Friends will be amazed!!!

Scientists don’t know what characteristics bald eagles look for in potential mates or how the birds assess each other’s reproductive potential.
It’s known, however, that bald eagle pairs engage in a number of courtship rituals as they build their bond.
The most famous and recognizable of these rituals is the “cartwheel courtship flight,” in which two bald eagles will fly up high, lock talons and then get into a cartwheel spin as they fall toward the ground, breaking apart at the last minute.
This piece is sculpted in two-part epoxy, is approximately 18 inches tall, and its radius is 19 inches. It has a turntable built into it so that it can be rotated easily.

“Peregrine”

I created this original acrylic painting several years ago, just to see if I could. It is a Peregrine Falcon that uses the Trompe’ style that creates the illusion that it is flying out of its’ frame. I’m not sure how successful I was, but here it is.
This is an acrylic painting on a gallery-wrapped 16X20 canvas. It has been framed, but perhaps it might be better if the frame was removed and hung as it is.

    The basis for the Ghost Dance is the circle dance, a traditional dance done by many Native Americans. The Ghost Dance was first practiced by the Nevada Northern Paiute in 1889. The practice swept throughout much of the Western United States, quickly reaching areas of California and Oklahoma. As the Ghost Dance spread from its original source, different tribes synthesized selective aspects of the ritual with their own beliefs.
    The Ghost Dance was associate(Wovoka’s) prophecy of an end to white expansion while preaching goals of clean living, an honest life, and cross-cultural cooperation by Indians. Practice of the Ghost Dance movement was believed to have contributed to Lakota resistance to assimilation under the Dawes Act.

    The Tuscarora Adoption Ceremony
    In late 17th and early 18th-century North Carolina, colonists reported two primary branches of the Tuscarora. Varying accounts circa 1708-1710 estimated the number of Tuscarora warriors as from 1200-2000.
    The Tuscarora had to deal with more numerous colonists’ encroaching on his community. They raided his villages, kidnapped the people to be sold into slavery, suffered substantial population losses after exposure to the infectious diseases of the Europeans. By 1711, the Tuscarora Chief Hancock believed he had to attack the settlers to fight back. The Indian tribes attacked, killing hundreds of settlers, including several key political figures among the colonists.
    The North Carolina militia, and allied Native Americans, attacked the Tuscarora in 1712 and 1713.the Tuscaroras were defeated in the battle of 1713, and 1500 Tuscarora fled to New York to join the Iroquois Confederacy. The Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Five Nations of New York were more than happy to accommodate their distant cousins as the “Sixth Nation”, and in 1722 adopted them into their Confederacy.
    This is the premise around which the “Tuscarora Adoption Ceremony” was created.
    The size of the original is 36 X 40 and is painted on stretched canvas.

    Geronimo was an Apache leader who continued the tradition of the Apaches resisting white colonization of their homeland in the Southwest, participating in raids into Sonora and Chihuahua in Mexico. After years of war, Geronimo finally surrendered to U.S. troops in 1886. While he became a celebrity, he spent the last two decades of his life as a prisoner of war.
    This 16 X 20 mono-color painting is of Geronimo in his last years, maybe thinking of his days in Arizona, fighting for his tribal lands.

The masks are used in healing rituals which invoke the spirit of an old hunch-backed man. Those cured by the society become members. Also, echoing the significance of dreams to the Iroquois, anyone who dreams that they should be a member of the society may join.

    Nampeyo (1859 –1942) was a Hopi-Tewa potter who lived on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. Her Tewa name was also spelled Num-pa-yu, meaning “snake that does not bite”.She used ancient techniques for making and firing pottery and used designs from “Old Hopi” pottery and sherds found at 15th-century Sikyátki ruins on First Mesa.A world record for Southwest American Indian pottery was declared at Bonhams Auction House in San Francisco on December 6, 2010, when one of Nampeyo’s art works, a decorated ceramic pot, sold for $350,000.
